OUR PURPOSE

We, the Sisters of Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc., shall create a Sisterhood directed towards the advancement of women. Kappa Phi Gamma aims to instill integrity of character and trust as components of personality. The Sorority shall encourage bonding of women in order to strengthen Sisterhood. We shall render service to the community and the university, thus supporting the betterment and unification of society. The Sisterhood shall develop leadership skills and high academic standards that follow into the professional world. Kappa Phi Gamma shall promote pride of culture, womanhood, and self.

OUR HISTORY

Our sorority was founded on November 8th, 1998 at the University of Texas at Austin by our 27 Founders! Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. is recognized as the world's first South-Asian interest sorority. Our founders wanted to create an organization that would be dedicated to the personal and professional development of South-Asian women. The sorority is South-Asian interest but we are not South-Asian exclusive! We have sisters from diverse backgrounds and welcome all who are interested in our organization. Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. encourages collegiate young women who believe in our purpose to consider joining our organization.

Upsilon Charter was established at the University of Connecticut on April 14th, 2018 by 6 dedicated Charters who wanted to provide a close knit family for hardworking women while also spreading South-Asian awareness on campus. Since chartering, we have been actively involved in our community through a plethora of events and have Sisters who embody all 8 of our principles in our daily lives.

PHILANTHROPY

Philanthropy is the promotion of the welfare of others. Philanthropic efforts often involve fundraising and donating money to a good cause. The Founders of Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority, Inc. chose cancer awareness as the sorority's national philanthropy. The Founders realized almost all of them had been affected by cancer in one way or another. This reiterated to the Founders that cancer is a disease that does not discriminate. They believed it was important to advocate and raise awareness to all manifestations of cancer. Our sorority has supported various cancer-related organizations since we were founded. Our sisters constantly engage in philanthropic work

in service of all whom are affected by cancer.

C.A.R.E. Week stands for Cancer Awareness- a Real Effort! This is our national philanthropy week that is typically held in April for national cancer awareness month. Our sisters nationwide plan C.A.R.E. Week at their respective schools. Events for C.A.R.E Week have included everything from bake sales to pie-a-sister and our annual Mr. C.A.R.E. Pageant! Our sisters also hold a candle vigil in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer.

All the money raised during C.A.R.E Week is donated to a non-profit organization of our choice!

We chose Bringing Hope Home as our C.A.R.E. Week Charity of 2016 and again in 2019 and 2020!

We are now excited to announce a national partnership with this wonderful organization! Bringing Hope Home recognizes how the fight against cancer affects all aspects of a person's life and their family life too.

The organization aims to bring "unexpected amazingness" to families with cancer.
